Passport Renewal
A U.S. passport can be renewed by mail (or at a regional Passport Agency by a third-party) if you have an undamaged U.S. passport issued within the last 15 years - provided you were over age 16 when the passport was issued.
If you have never been issued with a U.S. passport as an adult, or if your last passport was issued more than 15 years ago, you will be required to make an appearance in person (see info on First-Time Passport Applicants).
